Athens: demolition of the Roma camp in Halandri suburb

The camp of Roma community in Halandri suburb in Athens threatened with demolition of houses on 17 June, following a decision by general secretary decentralized administration of Attica. The camp exists since 1971 and currently 74 families residing in there.  According to the state planning – and after the former mayor mr Zafiropoulos and the elected municipal officials prosecuted for abuse of 1,300,000 euro (for infrastructure projects that were never in the camp) – The camp was proposed to relocated at Patera mountain in the old American military base. The demolition was postponed for September and solidarity groups as well as residents of Halandri area call for actions and a discussion for future plans in order to stop the authorities repression.
