Police have ordered the closure of the central Athens metro station of Syntagma all day Sunday and Monday, which is the Independence Day public holiday. Student and army nationalist parades will take place in central Athens on both days. Remarkable to notice that Greece is one of the few European countries left who organizes a nationalist event such as an army parade. Concerning the closure of the public transportation veins of the city, police didnt give an official explanation, but in recent months have ordered the shut-down of Athens metro stations several times, ahead of anticipated demonstrations and protests. Besides the police orders, the workers of OSE (trains railway) and suburban railway are on strike from Saturday till Monday.
