A Greek is believed to be among 11 foreign nationals arrested by the Turkish police on suspicion of helping ignite the Gezi park protests in Istanbul.
According to the daily Radikal newspaper, four Americans, two Britons, two Iranians, two French citizens, an Indian, a German and a Greek have been arrested by late Wednesday.
The paper said that four of them were Erasmus exchange students.
The German was visiting the country as a tourist, according to Hurriyet Daily News, which added that he may be deported.
The semiofficial Athens-Macedonian News Agency named the detained Greek as George Iatridis.
According to his Facebook profile, Iatridis is a 25-year-old student from Irakleio, in Crete, who is studying in Istanbul on an Erasmus exchange programme from Thessaloniki University. He is believed to have been arrested on Tuesday.
Following rumours that some of those detained may be diplomatic staff, the Greek consulate in Istanbul has flatly denied that there are any Greek diplomatic passport holders are among them.
