July 2013: news and updates from the Greek borders

While reading the greek media and various websites today, I have discovered a handful of new crimes committed by Greek state on its borders.

Four migrants were drowned at the see near the island of Kos while were attempting to enter Greece from Turkey on Thursday July 25th. The boat who were abroad sank, which probably was packed with migrants originally from Syria. Among the dead was a 10 years old girl, two women and one man. According to elethrerotipia newspaper, at the same time the authorities issued the first residence permits to foreign investors investing in the Greek real estate market.

Few days after, according to Pakistani media corporation samaa.tv, three Pakistani migrants shot dead by Greek border guards and four others wounded at the Greek – Turkish border. This incident took place on Saturday July 27th and  it didn’t really covered by the Greek mass media. The family of one of the victims who was among the dead, called upon Pakistani authorities to bring back the body of his son.

The silence of authorities and media in regards this incident is apparently a strategy of not really reporting of what’s the real situation at the border of Greece with Turkey. It remains unclear how many people murdered or wounded by the Greek state the past years around the cruel greek borders.
